How to survive a beach shoot-Plus BTS photos from yesterday's photoshoot

Hey Blog Readers :)

So yesterday I did my first in-water beach shoot (I cant believe I had never done one before-I did shoot on the beach before with Richie.ie: to see the BTS blog on that shoot click here: but we didn't go into the actual water).

Myself, Sammie (Samantha Craughwell makeup) and Sean (McCormack) hit Spiddle beach yesterday for a quick evening shoot. On Friday the weather was so gorgeous and sunny that we planned to shoot and expected the same on Sunday-Of course that never happens in Ireland as the weather is so unpredictable: In fact it was expected to start thundering and lightening (which scares me to death, lol) THANKFULLY it didn't and the rain held off until we had finished.

Above is a sneak peek of one of the resulting pictures-They all have a bit of an eerie feeling to them :)

How to survive a Beach shoot:

  • Organisation is key! The last thing you need on a beach shoot (in particular) is to be unorganised-Make sure you know what your wearing and you have an idea of what type of shots you want to get-the beach is cold (in ireland... most of the time anyway, lol), its sandy and things get wet so you don't want to be wasting time pulling loads of different outfits out and getting them dirty and wet for no reason... KNOW WHAT YOUR WEARING and ONLY BRING WHAT YOU NEED
  • Remember the essentials-A large beach towel, Flip flops and a warm jacket/Dressing-gowen (think of how you'r going to get changed).
  • Extras: Hairspray/gel-although the 'wet look' is the norm for hair on most beach shoots and it doesn't involve  too much styling remember to bring some hair spray and a comb to give a sleek look and keep everything in place.
  • Baby oil or something that gives the skin a bit of a glow is not an essential but a nice touch ;)
  • Remember to wear SPF! even if you don't think it is sunny-the last thing you want is sunburn.
  • An extra person: I wish I had brought an extra person to assist and help out-it would have been really handy to have an extra pair of hands to help with equipment as all 3 of us (Sammie, Sean and I were needed in the water) and perhaps having someone on shore would have helped enormously.
  • Have your game face on: Be confident and try to get a good shot as quickly as possible:-Given that the shoot is based in the water try not to waste anyones time-the faster you work the shorter amount of time you keep everyone in what can be quite cold water.
My day:
I had a great day-the water was actually pleasantly warm, which was surprising, and I found I was colder when out of the water. We worked faster than normal...left out the chit-chat and got down to business... although there were still some 'Lols' ;) haha
