Who Knows Ireland Best?? Models vs Taxi Drivers

For those of you who follow me on Facebook you will know that last week I was on a new RTE show 'Who Knows Ireland Best' which is hosted by Derek Mooney. The show it's self got mixed reviews from viewers but for me personally all I can say is it was a great experience and I had a ball! We filmed back in September and I definitely learned a lot from the experience in RTE and it is all a learning curve for me so I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity.

If you've never seen 'Who Knows Ireland Best' read on.. If you have you can skip this paragraph ;)
Basically 'Who Knows Ireland Best' is a new Irish Quiz show. It puts teams (of 3) from different professions up against each other to find out which out of the two professions is the most connected and in touch with the general Irish public and "knows Ireland Best". On our show we represented 'Models' and we were put up against 'Taxi Drivers'. A cross section of the general public were asked 100 probing questions about everything from their manners and morals to their hopes and expectations. RTE says:

"It’s a census of our self-esteem, a survey of our cultural body image and after the death of the Celtic Tiger, we stop the clock and assess who we are right now in a fun, irreverent way"
The teams are then given a selection of the questions which were given to the public and asked to guess the percentage/facts and figures that came back back as resulting answer to each question.

*As a viewer, (not just because we won, ha) the criticism I would have about the show would be that both teams should have been playing to win or achieve something-for example money towards a chosen charity or organisation-this would give a purpose to the show and a reason for playing more so than simply finding out "Who Knows Ireland Best??"

Also I was a little disappointed when it came to our make-up and hair... I completely understand that RTE are under budget cuts etc... but tv make-up is completely different to ordinary make-up and I feel that we should have had more assistance to make sure we looked our best on camera and the lights didn't make us too shiny.

Nevertheless it was great to work on a RTE set, to meet the people behind the camera as well as the man himself Derek Mooney (who everyone in Ireland has grown up with on their tv screens and Irish radio), to experience how these type of shows are run and to gain practice in front of production, a live audience and television cameras. I hope to do more tv work in the future and I will definitely draw on my experiences from 'Who Knows Ireland Best' when participating in similar projects.
